Over the years, I’ve learned there’s something really magnetic about the kind of confidence that doesn’t need to announce itself. Aubrey, this Class of 2025 senior, brought that rare energy to her senior session. There was ease in how she moved and a deep clarity in how she approached every part of the experience. We photographed her in the city, which she chose for its movement, the visuals, and the connection she feels to the bustling atmosphere. She’ll be calling it NYC soon when she begins her next chapter at Hofstra University, and the city backdrop felt like the most natural way to mark that unique transition.

Like so many of my clients, this stylish senior is an accomplished dancer, and that was evident in the way she carried herself throughout the session. Her movements had grace, but also intention. Her lines were thoughtful, not rehearsed, and each pose felt like part of something larger. There was rhythm in the way she shifted between expressions, as if the entire session had its own choreography. That kind of presence doesn’t come from being told what to do. It comes from knowing how to take up space in this world and make it meaningful. I was extra-grateful that she also came into the session ready to collaborate. She had exciting ideas, trusted the process, and was open to experimenting. It made the time together feel less like a photoshoot and more like a creative exchange. Working with someone who understands what they love but is still willing to explore is a gift, and it fill my soul. Aubrey brought that balance into every frame, and it made the images feel honest and alive. They were never just poses. They were hers. You may notice she’s not wearing traditional dance wear, but that’s because sometimes, I encourage my clients to wear street clothes to their sessions. The contrast gives a cool city vibe, and it always turns out so chic!

She told me she wants to become a film director, and the more time I spent with her, the more that made sense. She already notices light and understands space. She moves with a quiet sense of timing and clarity. There’s a stillness in her, but also focus. She’s paying attention in ways that feel natural, not performative. You can feel that she’s already building a point of view, already thinking about the story she wants to tell with her life and how to shape it.

Her mom joined us during the session, and there were moments when I’d catch her watching Aubrey with that kind of look that doesn’t need explanation. Later, she told me she was in awe. Not just of how her daughter looked, but of the way she’s growing into herself. She spoke about Aubrey’s ability to keep moving forward, even when things don’t go as planned. I love the strength in that kind of resilience, and it came through again and again. We talked more after the session, and her mom shared how proud she was of all that Aubrey has already accomplished. From being accepted to Hofstra with generous merit, to being selected for the honors college without applying, there’s no question that she’s earned her place. When asked to describe her, she said Aubrey is a leader, a visionary, and yes, stubborn. To me, it was that steady resolve, paired with imagination, that makes her so special.

When this beautiful and talented young lady saw her gallery for the first time, she didn’t need to say much. Just one word: special. And that was enough. Her session felt something true. Something lasting. A reflection not only of what this season looks like, but of who she is in it. And if you’re a parent looking for senior portraits that feel thoughtful, personal, and entirely unique to your teen, I’d love to help you create something real. Reach out when you’re ready, and we’ll plan a session that tells their story in a way that only they can.
